About Hunter Dove

Hi, I’m Hunter Marie Dove, founder of the Cedar Tree Music Studio. I am a musician and educator with over fifteen years of teaching experience. Both of my parents are musicians, and understood the importance of creating an environment where music appreciation can develop. When I was a child, there was always music in our home. We sang every day, listened to recordings, and attended concerts. I began taking piano lessons at age three, and with support from my parents, established a daily practice habit which allowed me to progress quickly. Participating in recitals and concerts gave me opportunities to develop confidence and learn how to manage performance anxiety.

At age eleven, I became interested in the violin and decided to take a few lessons during summer break. I was fortunate to study with Irene Mitchell of Dallas Suzuki Strings. The Suzuki philosophy, which focuses on teaching with love, was a perfect fit for me. Within three years, I was performing as a member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestras, and traveling abroad for solo and ensemble performances. A year later, I was accepted into the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas. During high school, I had the pleasure of performing with the Booker T. Washington String Orchestra. I also had the honor of performing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on multiple occasions.

I continued to study Music Performance while attending the University of Texas at Arlington, where I also chose to complete the Early Childhood Education Program. In 2005, I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a dual focus on Music Performance and Early Childhood Education. Although I gained many valuable insights into the emotional and intellectual development of young children during my nine-month teaching internship, I found my true passion to be Music Education. After graduating from college, I attended multiple teacher training courses offered by the Suzuki Association of the Americas in order to broaden my understanding of the Suzuki philosophy and teaching methods. I had already been working with a few students during college, but I now had the opportunity to accept more students and devote myself to a full-time career as a performing musician and music educator.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy playing with my pets (I have two cats and two dogs), cooking, gardening, swimming, and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy performing and collaborating with other musicians. Although I come from a classical background, my love for hip hop and electronic music has influenced several collaborations, including the L34F albums “Made Into Itself” and “Rooted From Within.” My husband, an electronic music producer known as “grIMP” in the music scene, is my favorite person to collaborate with. I was featured on his 2012 album “Covalence,” and on the recent full-length album by the synth-wave duo “Vectorwolf,” entitled “Forgotten Future.” I have also had the pleasure of performing and recording with the “Texanese” group “American Bedouin Band,” which allowed me to delve into new genres such as Blues, Jazz, Folk Music from India, Greece, and Lebanon, and original compositions by band mates and renowned musicians Buddy Mohmed and Dana Sudborough.
